The Digital Rights Group approached Made by Many to help them come up with a universally appealing, monetizable digital product.
This Is Your Life was conceptualised as the online repository of a person’s life which could be reproduced in either physical form (a book) or virtual form (DVDs).
The process of collecting data was intended to be highly social, with friends and family collaborating through social platforms like Facebook and a site-specific community blog, to contribute bits of information towards the final product. A timeline would trace key moments in the intended recipient’s life, providing an interesting overview.
This Is Your Life is a great example of crowdsourcing focussed around an individual, leading to a very personalised gift for life.

We work in a rapid, iterative and visual way. Starting from initial sketches, more and more layers of detail are added as the concept becomes more real. Shown here are initial ideas progressing into polished concepts and the finished Flex prototype.
Case Study
To help in selling the idea to investors and to prove the technology selection we created a fully functioning Adobe Flex prototype. The prototype included a rich interface to create and collaborate on a timeline of events, uploading images and video from multiple users. It also included a interface to create the red book through drag and drop.
The interface was designed to be simple to use for an older demographic, mixing easy-to-use functions with the rich visual environment provided by Flex. The Flex prototype interfaced with a Ruby On Rails backend to store data and encode video for Flash.
