Stuff that’s been floating around the office: February 2009
It’s been a while since one of my posts that shares stuff that we’ve been looking at in the office. February was only 28 days, and boy, did it fly by! Here’s some of what we’ve been looking at last month:
- Visualize us: A bookmarking tool that allows you to collect your favourite images from around the web.
- My Wonderful Life: Initially I thought this was a bit morbid but I guess at the end of the day, it really isn’t. In advance of exiting this glorious Earth, plan your…ermm…exit.
- Pipl.com: A search engine that trawls the ‘deep web’ as it says, to search for all instances of your name across it.
- New York Times’ One in 8 Million: Lovely visual and audio profiles of the lives of regular residents of wonderful wonderful New York.
- Blog Gender Analyzer: So, then, does your blogging say enough about your gender?
- Rolcats: ‘English translation of Eastern Bloc Lolcats’. ‘Nuff said.
- Magcloud: If you’ve always wanted to publish a magazine but didn’t have the resources to, here’s the chance you’ve always want to. Let us know if you become the world’s next magazine baron!
- London 2012 map: Very colourful map showing activities surrounding what will indubitably be the event of 2012.
- Everyblock: Great site that summarises what’s happening in your city, drilled down to the level of, yes, your block! Currently only for key US cities.
- 5 Best Data Visualizations of last year: Includes Wordle, the Obama-Clinton Divide, and Radiohead’s ‘House of Cards’ video. Click through because the other two are brilliant as well!
- Unnecessary Quotes: If you’re as anal as me, then things like wrongly placed quotation marks irritate you. Even better when they’re all in a blog so you can laugh at people’s stupidity as well. (Yeah, I’m mean..ha ha)
- Twisten.fm: This ‘crawls through Twitter for music. Then you listen to them’.
- Chirp City: Twitter by city. Yeah.
- Search Me: A sort of visual Google. Nice to look at. Actually, I’m surprised it hasn’t been spoken of more than it has. Don’t people like good-looking sites anymore?!!
- Reply For All: If you add a ‘cause’ signature to your messages, you’re helping your selected cause. Simple.
- Plinky: Hardly a few weeks old, really, but this service aims to bring out the creative in you.. It gives you a challenge that inspires you to create content. Nice.
- Endless Interestingness: Go forth and be interested. (Wait for the page to load, it’s worth it)
- Chi.mp: Currently invite-only, but if you want to consolidate all your online identities, then this is a good candidate for a resting house.
- Life Flow Charts: Go on, see what your life will look like in a flow chart!
- Pastiche: A collective composition of New York City.
