Stuff that’s been floating around the office – July 2009
Here we go:
1. Semanti:A few months ago, after Facebook introduced Facebook Connect, Razorfish created a presentation that looked at the possibilities of a world with portable social graphs online.
So we were quite intrigued to hear about Semanti, a browser add-on that automatically shares things you bookmark with your Facebook friends. Currently, we can share individual links on Facebook. Semanti will take this one step further and instead of bookmarking in Delicious (for example) in isolation or posting separate links to Facebook, you can share your bookmarked links with your Facebook friends straight away.
2. Tweehive: ‘Fashioned by a group of creative nature enthusiasts, Tweehive is a mass role play by human beings of a bee colony on Twitter, which will be played on three specific days in July, August and September with a view to raise bee awareness, wonderment, interest, actions and to generate traffic to bee related sites and resources.’ This is one of the more creative activist interventions on Twitter, definitely!
3. RFP or digital scavenger hunt: Faris Yakob wrote a very interesting post about a brilliant idea: the pitch process that Turkish Airlines created.
Turkish Airlines wanted to celebrate their love of digital, put prospective partners’ love to the test, and, by exposing the pitch process to the world, turn the pitch itself into a teaser campaign, that positions the brand as part of NOW.
So, instead of issuing a traditional RFP, they sent some agencies a social media treasure map: the tag ‘thybrief’, surrounded by various social media logos.
So across platforms like flickr, tumblr and blogger, clues as to the whereabouts of the pitch brief were hidden.
The team in Turkey followed the clues and cracked the fact that there was a password in the HTML source code of the blog, which got them into the gmail account and google docs, where the pitch brief was waiting.
4. This Moment: A site that allows you to share special moments in your life with your family and friends.
5. Twitlogo: Your name in the trademarked Twitter font. If you’re looking for a logo for that company you started that is named after you, look no further.
6. Shownar: A TV and radio hub for BBC shows.
7. CPB’s new beta site: It’s very social. That cannot be disputed. They’re also quite brave to do this without moderation. Some quite funny comments do sneak their way in!
8. Plainview: A full-screen browser created by the Barbarian Group for all those presentations.
9. StorySmith: A ‘behavior-driven development aid’, from the House of Google.
10. Eternal Moonwalk: A tribute to Michael Jackson. People continue to submit their rather entertaining home videos.
11. 5 Creative Uses of Twitter: All of them are interesting, but our favourite is ChalkBot.
12. Locast: An MIT project that allows you to share and discover user-generated videos about Venice, along with archives from RAI TV.
13. How to get shot by the Sartorialist: As Isaac says, very droll and entertaining!
14. We Broke Twilight: We’re interested in fan-curated stories and story-telling in general, so were interested to learn of this LiveJournal community where users can create a character and then go off on their own to write the character’s journals and author their Twitter streams. Somewhat Mad Men-reminiscent.
15. The Uniform Project: Sheena Matheiken is wearing the same dress for 365 days as an exercise in sustainable fashion and to raise funds for the Akanksha Foundation, a charity in India.
